sport tape is an innovative form of medical tape made of complex materials that adhere to your body to provide advanced support for muscle, tendon and joint movement. Ergonomic tape is very different from traditional medical tape or sports tape, it uses more advanced physical science to interact directly with your body’s muscles.
The most important thing to know is the difference between sport tape and exercise tape. Kinesiology tape actually primarily works by increasing movement and reducing existing pain in the ability to recover, grow and improve.
On the other hand, traditional sports tape acts as an injury prevention tool by limiting excessive movement that may be more likely to cause injury during sports, exercise or other strenuous physical activity.
Just think of kinesiology tape as a muscle multiplier or muscle helper. Think of traditional exercise tape as a form of muscle support to ensure your muscles aren’t overloaded.
What is sport tape
The main uses of sport tape are:
Physical Therapy:
Assist in recovery after serious injury
Addressing problems with specific joints or muscle groups that are not functioning properly
Assist with recovery after major surgery
Management of pain and swelling:
Suppresses unnecessary pain by enabling a full range of motion for specific muscle groups
By reducing excess muscle spasms
By actively increasing blood circulation
By helping to control unwanted reactions that occur in nerves associated with the central nervous system
Functional Movement:
Treat specific problems with functional activity, such as proper muscle contraction
increase flexibility
Improve range of motion in specific muscle/joint groups
How is sport tape applied?
Don’t be intimidated – while kinesiology tape requires a more advanced application method than traditional sports tape, you can still manage it yourself.
If you’re going to use sport tape under the direction of a doctor or physical therapist, they’ll usually show you during the session how to apply it to the specific medical problem that’s being addressed in your treatment plan.
However, you can of course use kinesiology tape voluntarily, even if you are not under the care of a doctor, so you may benefit from reducing pain and swelling and/or improving muscle, joint and tendon movement!
Traditional sports tape is easy to apply in a “wrap” fashion that provides support for specific joints and muscle groups.
sport tape, on the other hand, has to be applied in a very specific pattern, usually in small strips that stick directly on top of the target muscle or joint group.
