Runner's Knee
Runner’s knee(Chondromalacia patellae) – As a common disease of our knees, it is more common among young people who like outdoor activities such as running, mountain climbing, cycling, etc. After exercise, it is easy to produce dull pain, burning, tingling, and knee weakness. If you don’t pay attention for long, various knee problems will occur.
Please refer to the runner knee tape tutorial in this article to help you cure the disease as soon as possible.
kinesiology tape Taping tips
- Use kinesiology tape an hour before a long run to protect your knees from injury.
- Trim any excess hair around the knees for a better fit.
- After applying, please rub the runner knee tape to heat it and make it fit against your skin.
- Clean the dirt around the patella and keep it clean and dry.
- Do not use runner knee tape on open wounds or sensitive skin, as it may irritate.
- Round off the four corners of the tape so that it fits perfectly to the skin without curling.
HOW TO USE KINESIOLOGY TAPE FOR RUNNER'S KNEE
Please prepare three I-type runner knee tapes before application.
Secure one end of the kinesiology tape under the patella and stretch it 50%.
Wrap the tape from the right patella to the upper thigh.
The second kinesiology tape is also fixed under the patella, with the fixing point crossing the previous tape and stretched 50%.
Wrap along the left patella, intersecting with the first tape.
The third tape is stretched 75% in the middle and wrapped to the middle of the patella.
After applying, please rub to heat up and fully adhere to the skin.
What is a runner knee tape?
The main function of runner knee tape
1. Stabilize and support the patella
2. Relieve ligament pressure and pain caused by running
3. Reduce inflammation and swelling of the knee
4. Reduce fluid accumulation and promote blood circulation
Application of knee Kinesiology Tape
Kinesiology tape is widely used in running, cycling, football, soccer, basketball, etc.
Precautions for kinesiology tape
If skin irritation or redness occurs, please stop using!

Frequently Asked Questions
Runner’s knee is a general term for knee problems caused by excessive running, including ligament pain, uneven muscle tone, and patellar cartilage wear. (Using runner knee tape can provide adequate pain relief and reduce injury.)The most common symptoms include patellar pain syndrome (PFPS) and iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS).
Overuse
Frequent bending of the knees or high-intensity exercise, such as cycling, running, playing tennis, etc., can easily cause injuries due to excessive use of the knees.(Kinesiology tape can provide good protection.)
Falling
If you accidentally fall and hit your knees in an accident, it is usually accompanied by epidermal swelling and bruising. However, if you fall and get hurt frequently, the damage to your knees will accumulate over a long period.
Flat feet
Because the arch on the inside of flat feet is weak and the inner tibia has insufficient support, the angle between the thigh and calf bones will increase, causing the patella to be crooked, quickly increasing the chance of patellar cartilage wear.
Weak lower limb muscles
Weak gluteal or quadriceps muscles will make our pelvis and kneecap unstable when we walk or exercise, aggravating patellar wear.
Knee valgus
People with valgus knees or O- or X-shaped legs usually have abnormal patellar positions, leading to faster patellar cartilage wear.
1. The most common symptom of a runner’s knee is pain around the knee, but the exact location cannot be pointed out or felt. It is intermittent early but will gradually become more severe over time.
2. Especially after high-impact sports such as running, the knee will feel tingling and burning.
3. Some people often have a clicking sound in the kneecap due to abnormal movement of the patellar track or patellar cartilage jamming.
The runner knee tape can generate lifting force by stabilizing the knee’s patella, reducing the body’s pressure on the knee and the wear and pain caused by overuse, promoting blood circulation, and reducing inflammation, effectively reducing effusion formation.
